"Responding separately, Health Minister Mr Khaw, who is also an MP in Sembawang, said he wasn't surprised there will be a contest in the GRC. He also clarified on the alleged "insensitivity".

Mr Khaw said: "I think that is total fabrication..... brought up in a very Confucianist family, filial piety is the foundation of my whole life principle. So how could Khaw Boon Wan be recommending Singaporeans to dump their parents, whether in nursing home in Singapore or nursing home elsewhere?

".....I was merely making a comment, because I happened to visit a nursing home in Johor Bahru and the cost there, to be expected, was very low, very much cheaper than Singapore's. And that's to be expected because the nurses there are not paid the same as the nurses here (and) rental there is cheaper.

"So that was the observation I made. It then become twisted into 'Khaw Boon Wan asking Singaporeans to dump their parents in Johor Bahru'. I suppose they saw advantage in putting words in my mouth or twisting my words. In my same religious belief, if you lie, that is also one of the tragic sins. The outcome is also down to hell, so don't do that. I wish them well."

Live in nursing homes in JB?
147th Prostitute Press
10 February 2009

SINGAPOREANS could consider living in nursing homes in neighbouring Johor Baru, Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan suggested yesterday.

It would be cheaper, yet be near enough to Singapore for family members to visit and for residents to return for medical care if necessary, he said.

He told Parliament yesterday that he recently visited a site in Johor Baru where a Singaporean investor was planning to build a 200-bed nursing home.

He asked the investor about the costs involved, and was stunned at how low they were.
He said: 'It is mind-boggling. The cost of land and construction cost is so low that my cost of putting up just a polyclinic (in Singapore) is probably more than his cost of putting up a 200-bed nursing home (in Johor Baru).

'The monthly cost of keeping a resident in a private nursing home in Singapore, you can stretch it easily to pay at least 2-1/2 months of nursing home care in Johor Baru.'
If any medical problems cropped up, the elderly could be taken back to Singapore by ambulance, he said.

For most Singaporeans, visiting a relative in a Johor Baru nursing home would not pose significant difficulties, he said.

The investor, who is a nursing home chief executive, told him that many people visited their relatives weekly, even in nursing homes in Singapore.

Mr Khaw added: 'Of course many visit daily, but quite a significant number visit only during the weekends, so what is the difference in putting them in Johor Baru?'

Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan's comments were insensitive, and hurtful.

Have he forgotten that it were our parents who have suffered hardships in raising the young singaporeans? How could any Singaporeans have the heart to put their own parents away from their own homes?

Why don't he be the first to put his own parents overseas?

It is our parents who put us to education, food, shelter, love, care... by sending our parents to Malaysia, just because it's cheaper in cost, that by itself is an act of selfishness... we must never forget the love that our parents have given us...

If we do that... I am sure, when we are old, our children will put us away to hospices... this is tragic... what happened to our ministers?

Thanks for showing us Khaw Boon Wan roti prata in 2009 & 2011. Singaporeans can judge for themselves whether Khaw Boon Wan lied again (just like he promised no mean testing before 2006 election). He really know no shame to curse other people and called himself "the living religious buddha". Furthermore, I hate the way he walked.

Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan says means-testing will not be implemented in the next two years as originally planned.

He was responding on Wednesday to a Workers' Party's concern over the criteria to be used for means-testing.

Mr Khaw said: "The criteria? I don't know. I honestly don't know. I don't tell lies like some people. You don't want to implement a scheme that is so complicated, that it costs so much to do thorough means-testing. Then whatever you save, you have to now pay more for administrative costs. Now, that additional cost, someone has to bear it."

Health minister says no basis for rise in medical insurance premiums
29 January 2008 1416 hrs (SST)

SINGAPORE : Bit by bit, the questions about implementing means testing in public hospitals are being addressed but one has lingered unanswered, until now: Will medical insurance premiums inflate as a result?

One media report had suggested this possibility, after the Life Insurance Association (LIA) of Singapore said means testing would have a "definite impact" on the health insurance market, and insurers would have to review their product designs and policies.

Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan, however, gave his response in no uncertain terms when TODAY put the question to him. "There is no basis for such a rise," he said, in an email interview.

Thank you for bringing this up. I was going to do it but was too busy to look for it.

I think the lesson to learn from this is to be very mindful of what this Khaw fellow says. He will twist and turn to get the votes, and then procced to secure his pay package.

If he does not sue, than it must be true-that is the criteria used by his 87 year old mentor.
So until this case goes to court, we all know who is the liar.

By the way anyone knows which Confucianist Penang family he hails from?
Hopefully former PFS, St Xavier's ,Chung Ling and MBS students do not have to squirm too much in their seats when he start to flip his speeches.
