Mr Tan Ek Kia, who is also SMRT's executive director, said: 'I think fees for commuters are something for the Public Transport Council to determine.
'I believe they are going through this kind of deliberations right now.'
He added that the council will take into account factors such as the operator's costs in running and providing a safe and reliable service.
