What must they REALLY do for the people ?

I can't stand people that say, "So far our estate is clean and well maintained." What kind of mentality or logic is that ? An MP being elected by the people is being reduced to a mere property manager. PAP must be really happy when they take a chunk of their responsibility without having to pay them much or anything. Very 'song' for PAP.

When you talk about opposition parties, what must they REALLY do for the people ? It's definitely NOT housing estate management but their PRIMARY job is to oppose bad policies designed by a ruling party. I really hope they will do better for this round.

You're right, Conqueror and I agree with you. The unfortunate situation in S'pore however is that 60% of the voters regard estate management as the most important. So despite all the screwed up policies that only benefit foreigners, government linked companies and the rich, while the ordinary folls suffer, we still get this type of voting pattern. 60% still vote on the basis if there is shelter all the way from the bus stop to their block of flats, if the void decks are being jet sprayed to be sparkling white etc and consider them to be the most important issues in any election. Never mind if jobs are being snatched away by foreigners, never mind if the trains and buses are splitting at the seams, never mind if our CPF are not being returned to us till we are almost dead. Screw all that. As long as the lifts at their blocks of flats do not breakdown, as long as someone cuts the grass patch in front of their blocks regularly, they will continue voting in the incumbent. That's the mindset, tragically.
