A motorist ran a red light along Still Road and hit a vehicle coming from Joo Chiat Place. The impact sent Jali Mohd Yunos's car veering into the pedestrian crossing and knocking down a 75-year-old pedestrian.
Madam Lai Liok Khim sustained multiple injuries and died at Changi General Hospital two hours later.
On Thursday, Jali, 43, pleaded guilty to causing her death by driving dangerously. He was sentenced to four months in jail and disqualified from driving for seven years.
A district court heard that the offence was committed on Nov 11, 2010. Jali, a trainer for autistic children, was driving along Still Road towards Eunos Link at about 12.40pm. Investigations revealed that he did not check if the traffic lights were in his favour but merely followed the vehicle in front of him.
