Two STOMPers have reported large swarms of insects at Pandan Gardens. STOMPer Vikki and Fang Fang’s flats were hit by an attack of what appear to be mosquitoes.
STOMPer Fang Fang declares:
"This year, we have experienced the worst ever invasion of these insects.
"Usually, these insects will only stay for the month of June. But this year, they are still around even now and are increasing in number."
STOMPer Vikki emphasizes:
“Everyday, the number of mosquitoes seems to increase. As the floors get higher, the amount of mosquitoes increases.
“The walls were flooded with them on each level, along all corridors, even directly outside my door gate. Three quarters of them are on the walls, while a quarter of them are flying around.
“Imagine having to walk under that everyday.
“It gets worse. I discovered about ten of them on the wall right above my bed in my bedroom. I sprung up and saw a few; alive and squashed, on my bed.
“Two years ago, a similar case happened and drastic measures were taken to stop the situation.
“Things were under control and now it’s happening again, because the authorities have ‘slackened’."
Read more about the mosquitos on the next page.
Vikki and Fang Fang have both called the West Coast Town Council and were both told that nothing much can be done.
The Town Council told Fang Fang:
"It is PUB and NEA's duty to to keep the insect population in check every year. We have already notified them."
The Town Council also said that they could not remove the insects from the flats and could only 'clean the ceilings and walls with chemicals' and wait for the mosquitoes to 'die off'. STOMPer Vikki wonders if the affected residents are to simply wait it out and let the mosquitoes bite them.
She wants to know if the relevant authorities will do something to curb the problem.
