Michelle Liang started drinking at 18. Then, she just wanted to enjoy a night out with her girlfriends.

She went on to down five to seven drinks in one sitting a week and spend about $200 a night on jugs of house pour.

It was not until she was thrown out of a club in Europe that she realised she needed to change. Now the 22-year-old still drinks, but in moderation. 'After a while, you realise that getting dizzy and feeling nauseous is no fun. It's better to limit myself so I can enjoy the company of my friends better,' said the undergraduate.

Experts said more young women are now binge-drinking as there is no longer a stigma attached to the act. Many also have the means to support the habit.
