Channel NewsAsia Singapore NewsToday, 6:21 PM
TODAY reports: The authors of a study that highlighted the dismal quality of food that Bangladeshi construction workers in Singapore were being fed have called for greater Government regulation of such caterers.
They employers, rarely any, provide food for the workers, if they do, they will buy from the same shit caterers as the workers buy themselves. They will pay for the lowest possible costs....what do they want?, our half ball Vivien, will ask? Restaurant food, hawker centres food? or Individually chef cooked food??
The rice packet, usually consists of 1 veg (cabbage, legumes etc), one dahl, one meat ( cheap fish, chicken, mutton ( Indians), Beef ( Banglas), one yoghurt, gravy, Pooni Rice. I Use to sell rice packets to these people...so, I sort of know what the eat..
But it all come down to cost.....the more the government meddle in it, the higher the costs...& it is a dog chasing the tail scene. They quality of the cooking & where they are cooked, is fairly regulated these days by NEA...but there are still illegals ones, their presence is , once again cost, it use to cost the workers to get food packets ( Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner) at $70 a month...now it cost around 3 times that amount. So, they will look for cheaper vendors.....cheaper, it is...you know already.....'ai chi, ai pi & tua niap nee'....at $120 a month..Vivien will ask you, you want Restaurant grade cooking??
The best is to let the workers cook for themselves...that is another problem...will take a whole day to expound...too much regulations WILL DRIVE UP COSTS....NEA at the present moment, has done a very good job & I have stopped this line of selling food packets to these workers for some years already...it was good money, back then!
