At least 80 per cent of bus services must run at a frequency of not more than 10 minutes during weekday peak periods, under a service standard implemented by the Public Transport Council.
Feeder buses will be held to a higher standard: 90 per cent of them must arrive at a frequency of not more than 10 minutes during rush hour.
The moves to improve bus waiting time is part of an overall effort by the Government to get more Singaporeans onto public transport.
The PTC said the scheduled headways of 109 bus services with high demand have since been shortened.
There are currently 261 basic bus services running in Singapore.
Bus operators have added 116 buses and more than 260 bus trips since early this year to meet the new standards, added the PTC.
As a result, the average scheduled headway of the 109 services has come down by 18 per cent. Carrying capacity of the services has also gone up by 24 per cent.
PTC chairman Gerard Ee said commuters can now look forward to shorter waiting times and less crowded buses.
The council, which keeps track of bus operators' compliance with service standards, will announce results of its next review in October.
