Minimum Wage Debunked - Why Amazon & Walmart Love the Idea

You want to fight populism ...then you need basic minimum income or at the least a LIVING minimum WAGE.

Humans should not be exploited like animals. Just as animals will bite back after incessant torture, human will fight back harder after decades of exploitation.

Most business people won't want minimum wage because that would curtail their profits.

it doesn’t work out in sf. several popular and otherwise successful retail outlets and restaurants are closing. latest to close is the jardiniere on grove street. it’s not just the rent; it’s under stress from other cost increases including labor as part of the latest minimum wage increase starting january 1. moreover, majority of minimum wage workers live far away from sf, and the commute and time loss combined can cost them 16.9% of their incum. they would rather stay put outside sf and earn minimum wage in oakland and east bay (and even that is under threat). even a chef cannot live in sf, let alone a sous chef or cook. no amount of minimum wage increase can change that reality, unless minimum wage is increased to $696k per year. the math, logic, data, and results are never there, but we all know progressives, liberals, and the left who achieve orgasm with “minimum wage” are blind to and in denial with the facts.

Profits is what makes a business viable.

Without sufficient profit the business isn't worth running.

Two things can happen when a minimum wage is imposed :

1. For businesses that are no longer viable the business closes or moves.

2. Businesses that remain sufficiently profitable will stop hiring unskilled workers.

Either way those who were below the minimum wage will now find themselves out of a job.

Have you ever run a business in your life?

The clowns in here can't even run a lemonade stand.

Minimum wage is a fairy tale that creates an artificial spike in personal income at the expense of a guaranteed increase in ALL goods and services u end up paying.

This is exactly what is happening in NZ. Every single time the minimum wage goes up so too do council rates, supermarket prices, utilities and other services.

The net result is that low income earners quickly drop back to square one. In many cases the price rises outpace the minimum wage increases.

Over the last 20 years the minimum wage has more than doubled but the low income certainly don't have twice the buying power. They are actually finding it harder to make ends meet.

We don’t have a rising minimum wage here but all prices are still increasing way ahead of inflation. So the suggestion that minimum wage perpetuates higher costs is rubbish

PAP has been right about minimum wage. If those populist oppies get voted into government, that will be the end of Singapore.

Singapore has limited land and a monopoly land owner. Prices go up because demand outstrips supply.

NZ has loads of land, loads of water, loads of hydro power and loads of labor.

The increase in wages has already killed manufacturing in NZ. All have moved offshore.

Minimum wage legislation is impossible in Singapore when you have the maids & the Bangalas working here on pittance wages.

I ran a business and used to hire students at what was called a "youth wage".

When labor gained power in 1999 they got rid of the youth wage and mandated that everyone including college students were to be paid the minimum wage.

My response was similar to many other businesses. They stopped hiring youths and the source of income for these youngsters pretty much disappeared overnight.

Nobody is going to pay a minimum wage to those who are not productive enough to add value at that rate.
