SINGAPORE - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong nominated today Mr Michael Palmer to be elected as the next Speaker of Parliament when Parliament opens on October 10.

A statement released by the Prime Minister's Office said PM Lee has briefed PAP Members of Parliament (MPs) on his nomination and received their full support.

The last Speaker of Parliament, Mr Abdullah Tarmugi, retired from politics earlier this year.

The roles of the Speaker include presiding over the sittings of the House and enforcing the rules prescribed in the Standing Orders of Parliament for parliamentary business to be conducted in an orderly manner.

The Speaker also regulates and enforces the rules of debate. He/she decides who has the right to speak and puts the question for the House to debate on and vote.

How many PAP MPs are out there to help people:eek:

Certainly not LKY, LHL, GCT,....etc.
An MP once described Spore as being run like a corporation & corporate executives are only interested in money:rolleyes:
