Users of mobile messaging service Line have reached 200 million people worldwide, the service's developer said Tuesday, adding that it is giving out free downloadable "stickers" in celebration.
"We added another million registered users [in Taiwan] in six months," Sting Tao, vice president of Line Taiwan, told CNA.
The service provider attributed the rapid growth to the fast-growing number of users in South America and Asia and partnership with enterprises and celebrities.
In order to celebrate the 200 million target, the firm now provides a four-day campaign in which it is allowing free downloads of popular "stickers" that users can post in their messages for 180 days.
Starting from Tuesday, users can download "Brown and Cony's Secret Date" stickers, as well as "Cony's Happy Work Life," "Moon: Mad Angry Edition," and "Sally: Special Edition" for the coming three days, the developer noted.
However, in order to stagger the massive downloads expected in such a short time, Taiwanese users can only start to download from 1 pm July 24, the developer said.
Launched in June 2011, Line, which allows its users to enjoy free calls, took just 399 days to reach the 50 million user mark, compared with 1,096 days for Twitter and 1,325 days for Facebook.
