My name is Tan Kin Lian. I am standing for election as President of Singapore.

Many people have told me that they want a President who can:

Be a voice of the people
Be independent of the PAP Government
Safeguard their CPF money and the national reserves

If you give me your support and I get elected, I promise you that I will carry out these tasks diligently.

I come from a humble family background. When I was a child, I lived in a rented room and had to move residence a few times. Later, I lived in a HDB flat for 7 years. Today, I live in a ordinary house and like many Singaporeans, I have a car but often travel by bus and MRT.

I understand the struggle of many people who find it difficult to earn enough to meet the cost of living, have to travel in crowded public transport daily and have to face the competition for jobs. I am close to the ordinary people in Singapore and can be your voice to carry your views to the Government.

I have never been a MP or minister in the PAP Government. As President, I will be able to think and act independently of the Government and take a different perspective in looking after the interest of the people of Singapore. I will work in cooperation with the Government to find solutions that are best for the people.

In my decisions, I will guided by my personal values of honesty, fairness, positive attitude, courage and public service and by the views of the people (which I will actively seek).

I am qualified and have the financial knowledge to safeguard your CPF money and the national reserves. I had nurtured an insurance company for 30 years, looking after the savings of over 1 million people and managing assets of $17 billion.

I understand the need to be prudent in our investments, to avoid speculation and to invest for the long term. I can bring this knowledge to the duty of the President in safeguarding the reserves.

I wish to run for President as a public duty. I do not wish to receive a large salary as President and will be willing to donate at least 50% of the salary to charity and other worthy causes.

I hope that you will give me your support and will encourage your friends, colleagues, neighbors to support me. Please help me in spreading this message to them.

Tan Kin Lian

Candidate for President of Singapore

Advice for TKL: Check out what an EP can do and cannot do first. Stop misleading the people.

I would like to see out of the $17 billion assets, how many billions is he looking after minus those from all NTUC-affiliated companies. If he had left NTUC before retirement and build an insurance empire, then I will truly respect him as a self-made multi-millionaire, one worthy to be an EP. As it is, taking bus and MRT does not inspire any confidence in him. Of course that does not mean he is poor, and he has tons of money stashed away, but he is not exactly Scrooge or Howard Hughes, or is he?

Advice for Tan Kin Lian. You are not a candidate until your get your certificate of eligibilty. Don't give people the chance to whack or worse, even sue you for misrepresentation.

good on you Mr. Tan, when the going gets tough the tough gets going.

The people will deliver their own EP the way they delivered WP into Parliment. Hilview Ave Estate residents give their votes to PAP in exhange for a promise upgrading. Instead they bull dozed the whole estate and dispersed the voters so how to trust PAP with the CPF monies. Will they empty the CPF money and bankrupt the CPF if TT is EP?

"...He has achieved much with hard work and common sense but he has one unfulfilled desire: "I want to have a PhD. I want to be Dr Tan Kin Lian! It's a test."

Of what?

"Of whether I can make it."... "Tan Kin Lian, 'Just catch me the rat' 147th Prostitute Press, 30 August 1992

I first dealt with TKL about 15 -20 years ago (can't recall exactly when) in soc.culture.singapore before Sam started Sammyboy forum.

What struck me then about TKL was his acute vanity and peacockish narcissm. His seemingly unquenchable thirst for the spotlight and desperate craving for the limelight were as constant as they were shameless.

I can't recall exactly his stupid answer when he was questioned on the ethics of him as CEO of NTUC spending $600, 000 of the cooperative's money on politically partisan RCs for their noticeboards in the 90s. He gave some stupid, forgettable reason/s just as he used to give vacuous replies and just as he used to parrot and vomit out the same, tired PAP's position on nearly every issue that he chose to argue about or comment on.

15-20 years later, we have an older but same old, egotistical Tan Kin Lian vomiting out the same trite replies and rubbish he was vomitting out 15-20 years ago.

Nothing has changed.

This answer he gave in his 1992 interview with the Prostitute Press, perhaps, is an honest indication on why he really wants to run for President. It has nothing to do with the trite, silly and inane rubbish he has been throwing up but everything to do with whether he, Tan Kin Lian, can "make it".

Being President would be Tan Kin Lian's personal and ultimate "test" of whether he can "make it".
