LTA plans to change traffic light timings at Bugis junction

finally! then again, the ferrari and lexus drivers were drink-driving

crashsite-jpg_075341.jpg

Make a major Bugis road junction a crash site no more.

At least that is what the Land Transport Authority hopes to achieve by synchronising the green phase timing for the traffic lights at the pedestrian crossings linking Bugis Junction and Bugis Village, and the lights at the cross-road junction of Victoria Street and Rochor Road.

The latest move is an “added precautionary measure” after two consecutive motor accidents occurred at the site. The first accident on 12 May involved a speeding red Ferrari, while the second two weeks later involved a Lexus.

Both cars were travelling in the same direction in the wee hours on a Saturday when they both crashed into a taxi.

The first accident left three dead and two injured. The second had no fatalities.

Chin Kian Keong, group director for road operations and community partnership at the LTA, told Yahoo! Singapore that the agency’s engineers carefully evaluated the traffic signal configuration at the Rochor-Victoria junction, and “assessed that there were no issues with the existing traffic scheme at that location”.

He added, “The traffic lights at the crossroad-junction are distinct and can be clearly seen by the driver, whichever lane they are driving on.” Nonetheless, LTA is going ahead with the changes in traffic lights.
In a statement, the LTA cautioned, however, against drink driving.

"We cannot over-emphasize the importance for motorists to abide by the mandatory traffic signals and keep to the speed limits, and not to drive if they drink,” it said.

Just look around in Spore & you'll notice that there are more places serving hard liquor.

If the PAP is going to allow more establishments to serve hard liquor then they should also spend more resources policing these places. Even if they are reluctant to jail these drunk talents. they should hand out hefty fines for these crimes. It will help pay for the extra enforcement

Policemen not enough. It was reported a few days ago that the SPF is going to recruit 500 more policemen. Anyone wanna guess will it be 100% local?

Lexus driver in Rochor crash charged Gestapo Lackey Alvina Soh | Posted: 30 May 2012 1229 hrs
Peasant: The rich merchant driver of a Lexus car involved in an accident with two other cars at the junction of Rochor Road and Victoria Street was charged in Kangaroo court on Wednesday.

Ah Siah 'Kelvin Seah Koon Yong' (副二代), 30, faced two charges of drink-driving and dangerous driving.

Ah Siah Seah's vehicle hit a peasant taxi and a cheap car at the junction of Rochor Road and Victoria Street after he allegedly beat the red light early in the morning on May 26 after trying to do another Ma Chi.

A passenger in the taxi was sent to hospital and received outpatient treatment.

The accident happened at the same place where a Ferrari sports car crashed into a taxi and a motorcycle on May 12, claiming three lives.

Ah Siah Seah, who is 'self-employed' read 'ah siah', turned up in court with his indulgent gangster father who yelled (hokkien vulgarities) at paparazzi. This time round, the Mouthpiece decided not to label Seah as 'yan dao' or self made because of Ah Gan's directive to write glowing reports about PRC Pandas.

Seah said he was not engaging a lawyer knowing he will probably be eating curry rice for a while if he is not a rich PRC Panda. He is only a rich 'ah siah kia', not a foreign one.

His case will be heard again on June 13 and the regime hopes that all anger will be abated soon.

If and only if convicted of drink-driving, Ah siah Seah may be disqualified from driving for up to a year but as we know, these ah siah probably continue driving and bragging about their crash e.g. see Regan Lee.

First-time offenders (poorer peasants and bangla drivers are usually fined between S$1,000 and S$5,000, and jailed up to six months but for Ah Siahs, they probably strike a deal with the DPP and get time off for good behaviour (see Regan Lee).

1st timer unlikely be jail because no one died or seriously injured lucky for him that 2 person in the taxi if fine.
Best is revoked the license for 2 year or more and jail one month.
Even Christoper Lee jail one month .

Regan Lee is this ah bui.

1774676263_a8033c38a1_o.jpg

Regan, 26, was originally accused of causing death by dangerous driving, admitted to an amended charge of causing the death of Ms Angelia He Xueli, 22, by a rash act along Upper Paya Lebar Road on Oct 29, 2005.

Ms He, an only child, died of multiple injuries about an hour later in hospital.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Imran Abdul Hamid said Lee, now unemployed, was driving at a fast speed in the open-top convertible with Ms He beside him when he failed to control the two-seater after negotiating a left bend.

The Mazda veered towards the right, mounted the central island and went to the opposite side of the road, hitting Mr Raymond Lim Tai Teck’s BMW car.

The collision caused the Mazda to flip over and upwards violently before landing and hitting the roof of a van, driven by Mr Chng Hak Tiong.

It is bad enough that Fatty Regan’s reckless driving resulted in the lost of a young, innocent life. To make it worse, Fatty Regan did not appear to be repentant at all of his bad behaviour after the accident. While waiting for his case to go to court, Fatty Regan continued to put up a posting in a car forum asking for advice on two high-performance cars he was interested in. A Netizen called Legendkiller recalled Regan’s identity. This subsequently led to many raging online debates.

What a nice of of lard Regan Lee resembles....?! The civil suit against him has 'evaporated' proving kangaroo justice for poor peasants.

Fat lard like Regan Lee are fat cats strolling around and creating trouble for other peasants. If you check his record, he is probably having a good time at KTVs during National Serfship e.g. PES C2/E. Another good example is Patrick Tan, Mindef's premier Military Scientist. Of course, who cannot forget the deceased PRC Panda, Ma Chi?!

should just ban drink drivers from driving for life. it is a conscious choice, you drink, you don't drive. you drive, you don't drink.

or 2-3 strokes of cane. they fear the cane more than the jail/fine. anyway any one has photos of the yelling ah-bui's father?

I bet the same problems that are effecting our MRT trains are not isolated. The gov't has been cutting back on non-revenue items things like maintenance & policing

They were able to get away with it but with the increasing population, cracks are now showing. Revealing the myth of a Swiss standard in Spore :(

Re: LTA plans to change traffic light timings at Bugis junction

No matter how many safeguards the LTA or Traffic Police put in place, there will always be drink drivers who think they can get away with it.
I say punish these scumbags in court as a deterrent to others. I heard that for the Kelvin Seah fellow, the max punishment will only be disqualification for 1 year and/or fine and up to 6 months in jail?
Luckily no one died because of his ignorance.

Sinkie really needs to revise its punishments for DD offenders.

True. But the accidents at the Bugis-Rochor Junction was due to the removal of the overhead (or cantilever) traffic lights there. LTA did this to facilitate construction of the Downtown Line but it overlooked the fact that with its removal, cars could miss the vertical traffic lights especially when their view are blocked. This was in fact pointed out by road experts (including the ex chief of LTA Joseph Yee and NTU Prof Lam) and some road users who drive past that junction regularly, LTA denied that this was the attributing factor out of fear that the insurance companies could sue it for negligence. So it held on to the line that all that is needed is to synchronise the traffic lights. If that so, then why did it go on to say it will restore the overhead traffic lights? Some people pointed that because everything is now outsourced, including the supervision of construction, the removal of the overhead traffic lights could have even been carried out without LTA's knowledge, probably decided by a Bangla of Pinoy foreman.

Re: LTA plans to change traffic light timings at Bugis junction

Evidently, some of those brain-dead LTA scholar goons or their underlings have been trawling blogs/sites/forums that mentioned this.

Too bad it took a tragic Ferrari accident and another near-hit at the same junction before they started to wake up their bloody idea.

World class government and civil service?
Don't flatter yourselves.

Lexus Driver's father fuck the press

20120530.134741_lexus_seah.jpg

SINGAPORE - The driver who was behind the wheel of the Lexus that was involved in an accident with a taxi at the junction of Victoria Street and Rochor Road was charged in court on Wednesday.

Kelvin Seah Koon Yong, 30, is said to have been drink-driving and driving dangerously.

He had allegedly beat the red light and ended up colliding with a Comfort taxi at the same site where the horrific Ferrari crash happened about two weeks ago.

Earlier, a breathalyser test result showed 42 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. This exceeds the prescribed legal limit of 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres.

According to The Straits Times (ST), police prosecutor requested for an adjournment as the case may be handed over to a deputy public prosecutor.

Seah, who does not intend to engage a lawyer, will appear in court again on June 13.

ST also said that Seah's father hurled vulgarities at press photographers outside the Subordinate courts and accused reporters of 'creating a big hoo-ha over a small matter'.

Last Saturday’s crash came exactly two weeks after another collision at the same junction.

In the wee hours of May 12, a Ferrari driven by a Chinese national allegedly beat a red light and crashed into a taxi, which then hit a motorcycle.

That incident claimed three lives: those of the Ferrari driver, and the taxi driver and his passenger. The motorcyclist and a passenger in the Ferrari were injured.

To make the junction safer, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has synchronised the signals at the junction with those of the pedestrian crossing linking Bugis Junction and Bugis Village, so that they turn green at the same time.

LTA also said it will reinstate next year a set of overhead traffic signals which were removed due to the MRT works in the area.
