SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 24-year-old Marina Bay Sands (MBS) croupier and his two brothers, aged 21 and 25, for trying to cheat the casino.

Officers from the Casino Crime Investigation Branch of the Criminal Investigation Department were tipped off by the casino operators.

They arrested two of the accused at the casino early Monday morning, and the third accused was arrested later in the afternoon.

It is believed the trio cheated the casino of an estimated sum of S$150,000.

Cash of S$68,000, RM20,000 and S$3,800 worth of chips were seized as case exhibits.

The trio will be charged in court on Tuesday for conspiring to cheat the casino.

If convicted, they could be jailed up to 15 years, and fined.

Head of the Casino Crime Investigation Branch of CID, Superintendent of Police Michael Ang reiterated police's stand against such criminal activities.

He said, "Police will spare no effort in tracking down such offenders and ensure that they will be dealt with to the full extent of the law."

Sheee... Our MSM is now getting more and more sensitive. No names or nationality of the trio could be named when crimes are concern. There's a hint though.

Casinos mostly do not need to cheat because the games already guarantee them a win when the game is played over and over. The statistics is related to actuarial science. The cheats are Malaysians because it is obvious that RM money was confiscated as was reported.

There are a lot of crimes committed by croupiers and more so in Singapore. In Macau, they would be hauled up a drowned quickly and lost forever so that the crime rate is low. In las Vegas the crimes are less because Ang Mohs do not cheat as often as Asians. This is a fact. In Singapore's casinos you will find a lot of infringements from the croupiers. These brothers got too greedy. For everyone caught there are at least 20 cases that go free. It is easy to cheat as a croupier but it has to be less often and for less money.

The casinos do not have enough cameras to cover the entire floor area. These three idiots were just too greedy. It is easy to earn a few thousand dollars a night at such a big casino as what we have here all from cheating with a croupier but it cannot be done too often. Once in 2 to 3 months is still OK if you have contacts and it has to be less than ten thousand each time. Can blow whistle but cannot buy mercedes. Keep this in mind.

if casinos paid their croupiers a high wage, there would be less incidence of cheating. no one will risk his $100k/yr job to cheat a couple of $1000s.

but i'm sure the casino has done their analysis and they figured its cheaper to pay less and let them cheat.

It does not matter how much they are paid if they want to cheat they will cheat. The higher their salary then they will cheat a larger sum of money. There are also a lot of croupiers. What they are paid is based on years of industry practice in many countries. The issue is that it is quite easy to cheat and easy to get away with it if you do it occasionally. Those that get caught are those that do it too often and all the cases have demonstrated.

THREE Malaysian brothers were yesterday charged in court over the alleged misappropriation of casino chips worth $175,000 at the Marina Bay Sands casino.

Matthias Ng Khay Yeek, 24, a dealer for the casino, is accused of criminal breach of trust over the chips belonging to his employer between the beginning of August and Sept 29.

Mark Ng Khay Shuean, 21, and Matthew Ng Khay Shean, 25, allegedly conspired with Matthias Ng and others to commit criminal breach of trust as a servant.

The three were remanded at the Central Police Division lock-up for further investigation, as they are believed to be involved in other cases as well.

Acting on a tip-off, police arrested two of them at the casino on Monday morning, and the third brother later that day.

Cash of $68,000, RM20,000 (S$7,984) and $3,800 worth of casino chips were seized.

The trio will be back in court next Tuesday.

The maximum penalty for criminal breach of trust as a servant is 15 years' jail and a fine.
