A woman from the central province of Nghe An has been sentenced to one year in prison for stealing two iPhones and a lighter from an Australian client after an overnight massage session.
Police arrested Nguyen Thi Ha, 22, in January by tracking the phones, following a complaint from the Australian man.
The man, 53, said he paid Ha for a massage session at his hotel room. She also spent the night, but his statement did not indicate whether they had sex.
He woke up the next morning, only to find that Ha had disappeared with his phones and a Zippo lighter, worth around US$1,000 in total.
Ha said she wanted to know "what an iPhone was like," and she stole the lighter for her boyfriend.
Investigation found Ha had been using drugs.
She committed fraud in her hometown Hanoi once and had to serve ten months in jail in 2011.
Then she moved to Nghe An to work at the tourist town Cua Lo, leaving her child to her parents.
