Marriage rates are falling across South East Asia even in countries like Vietnam and Thailand, where marriage is an important institution, young adults are staying single longer, with many not even considering marriage. In Bangkok, half of its residents are single. According to some surveys, 41% of single Thais have no plans to settle down. In Vietnam, the age of marriage has steadily gone up, as the younger generation delay getting hitched. Why is marriage less appealing to young Southeast Asians?
