The driver, believed to be in his 70s, was the only one in the vehicle.

This uncle most likely died of heart attack and sudden dead seconds before the accident.

Straits times is smart because they purposely choose not to investigate or report this news whether the uncle has died because of accident or heart attack or stroke

My sincere condolences to the victims families of this accident, those who passed on, & a speedy recovery for passengers injured. NONE would want an accident, & the causes will be many - ignorance, fatigue, anxieties, etc, etc. Fault findings may correct future errors for everybody else, but what happened had happened...precious lives lost & injuries...

Usually, those above 60s will have to show med cert to prove ability to work. Some may be bored, but many do it out of CRITICAL survival. Life is no bed of roses. The aged, if they have no family or kids to support them, will have to survive & can't merely live on social welfare support, which had been proven beyond the means of societies, as the young will have to fork out more in taxes in its various forms such as income tax or gst, etc to support the unsupported elderly...

Spore is NOT a barbaric society that leaves the elderly to die in cold forests, but an evolved & evolving civilization, did attempt its best to balance welfare to the young & old, thru its CPF measures instituted by far far visionary founding fathers, unlike other nations even, that saw our progress. It may not be enough, & better minds are needed to help to find a better balance, or at least to tweek the CPF system to better serve our Civilization.

Should one in our progressive civilized nation find the aged still working beyond 60 years old, may each reflect on oneself on what we the young had done or should do, not only to help them not just financially or emotionally, but to prepare ourselves mentally & financially thru education & social connectiveness for the future when we age, as ALL mortals will age.

Thanks to these old farts working, we won't have to burden our healthcare and pension systems too much. The money saved can be invested in upgrading our MRTs, old HDB flats and giving scholarships to young, deserving foreigners who yearn to be sinkies.
