[SINGAPORE] As demand for alternative assets is heating up in Singapore, so too is the need to hire more staff versed in the field. Leading recruitment agencies saw more openings for such roles in the first quarter of 2025, with Robert Walters and Randstad reporting a year-on-year increase of nearly 20 per cent in the number of such job postings in the city-state.

To diversify their portfolios, family offices, ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW), and high-net-worth individuals are turning towards alternative investments – a broad class spanning unlisted assets including private debt, private equity (PE) and real estate.

When you can't prevent money laundering, you legalise it under a different name called alternative investments.

In sectors where S'poreans may be less inclined to work, such as some blue-collar jobs in construction and manufacturing, foreign workers are brought in to fill crucial roles. This allows the economy to function and can free up S'poreans to take on white collar jobs in other sectors. The problem is that the PAP is bringing in white collar workers from India and other countries which forces locals to shift to blue collar jobs after being displaced from their companies. The anxiety that companies prefer to hire foreign workers over locals due to lower costs or specific skill sets, leading to job displacement for S'poreans, has been happening for more than a decade.
