Man to be charged with armed robbery

SINGAPORE: A 36-year-old man suspected of robbing a woman with a knife has been arrested and will be charged with armed robbery on Monday (Aug 11).
According to police, the man allegedly robbed a 27-year-old woman as she was about to enter her home in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Street 51 on Aug 3. Fearing for her safety, the victim handed over her handbag containing cash and identification documents to the suspect who fled thereafter.
Upon receiving a 999 call, officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division conducted extensive ground enquiries. Despite a lack of crucial information, the officers managed to obtain an image of a man believed to be the suspect from CCTV.
In an operation conducted on Saturday (Aug 9), the officers arrested the suspect after spotting him in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8. The victim's handbag and personal belongings, as well as the knife that police believe was used in the robbery, were recovered. - CNA/ir
