A man was caught spitting numerous times on an MRT train on the Downtown Line.

Stomper Lau Lau alerted Stomp to a video of the incident which was posted to Facebook on May 3 at 4.38pm.

In the video, the man stood in front of the train doors and touched his mouth before repeatedly spitting.

Many people are seen standing near him in a seemingly crowded carriage.

The text in the video reads, "Hopefully the Singapore MRT can disinfect the carriage doors thoroughly."

One netizen believed he had previously witnessed the same man hitting others.

In Singapore, first-time offenders can be fined up to S$1,000 for spitting.

Repeat offenders can be charged up to $5,000 in fines.

It is time for the government to look into growing mental issues confronting this society and the number of cases involving youngsters are increasing.
