A man from China, Jakku Song, has garnered attention after announcing his unconventional success in mastering Japanese.
By watching 4,545 Japanese adult videos (AV), he self-taught himself the language and passed the N2 level of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT), qualifying for admission to Japanese universities or vocational schools.
Never received formal language training
Jakku Song revealed that he never received formal language training.Instead, his fascination with Japanese AV culture drove him to learn through extensive viewing and imitation.
He now runs a YouTube channel where he discusses sensitive topics in Japanese, dubbing himself “Asia’s Last Gentleman” and promoting a message of peace and love.
In one of his videos, he displayed his N2 certificate and humorously thanked legendary AV actresses such as Sola Aoi, Tsukasa Aoi, Kana Momonogi, and Rei Honjo, whom he credited as his “teachers.”
He concluded the video lying among piles of used tissues, playfully mocking his learning process.

The Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is a standardized exam assessing non-native speakers’ proficiency in Japanese.It consists of five levels, with N5 being the easiest and N1 the most advanced.
