Man on graft, forgery charges

A FORMER enforcement officer was charged in court on Friday with corruptly demanding money or sex from a teenager in return for not telling her parents that she had been caught smoking and littering. Eddie Quek Yu Meng, 26, then employed by AETOS Security Consultants and attached to National Environment Agency, is also accused of corruptly accepting $50 from an unknown man for not taking enforcement action against him for littering in September 2008.
He had allegedly demanded for a bribe from the girl, either in the form of sex or money, at the stairway of Block 365 Woodlands Avenue 1 on Feb 10 last year when he had left AETOS. Quek, now a sales assistant, was also charged with five forgery offences. He allegedly used a genuine a Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education belonging to somebody else in November 2007 to apply for a job.
He is also accused of forging documents purportedly issued by Certis Cisco Security and Singapore Customs at his home at Bain Street last Dec 12. His police bail was extended until his next appearance in court on Nov 8. If convicted, he faces a fine of up to $100,000 and/or a jail term of up to five years for each charge of corruption. The maximum penalty for forgery is four years' jail and a fine.
