IPOH: A bus driver suffered a gruesome death as he was helping victims of an express bus involved in an accident at KM190.7 of the North-South Expressway in Bukit Merah.
In the 5.30am incident Wednesday, Mat Dan Mat, 61, was trying to help fellow bus driver, Habdul Ghani Jantan, 46, who was pinned in the wreckage, when a Nissan Grand Livina car rammed into him.
Kerian OCPD Superintendent Mat Fauzi Nayan said the express bus had earlier crashed into the back of a lorry laden with goods.
"The deceased stopped his bus by the side of the expressway and went to help those involved in the accident. The driver of a cement lorry also stopped by to help.
"As the two were figuring out how to help the victims, a Nissan Grand Livina rammed into the stranded vehicles in the middle of the northbound lane," Supt Mat Fauzi said.
The impact of the crash flung the deceased into the southbound lane and he subsequently hit by several oncoming cars, he said.
"The deceased died on the spot from serious head and body injuries. His body has been sent to the Taiping Hospital for post-mortem," he said.
