A waitress drove her boyfriend's car and caused the death of a 70-year-old man in 2011. She had no driving licence and had been drinking.
On Tuesday, her valet boyfriend Yap Chun Kiat, 31, was fined a total of $1,800 for allowing her to drive his car without a licence and insurance coverage. He was also disqualified from driving for 11/2 years.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Alan Hu said that Yap and Ms Candy Siow Pei Shan, 24, drank at her workplace, Club Axchange, in Tanjong Pagar close to midnight on Feb, 1 2011. At 3am, the couple and a friend went to another club at the Esplanade where they had more drinks.
Two hours later, Yap handed the car keys to Siow for her to start the engine, as he was talking to someone. After waiting for a while, she became bored and decided to drive.
