The man who drove while intoxicated and caused the deaths of two female friends in 2014 was jailed 30 months on Tuesday (March 1).

Tang Zi Liang, 22, had pleaded guilty to two counts of dangerous driving, one count of driving with his blood alcohol level above the legal limit, and one count of failing to ensure his passengers wore seat belts.

Tang, who was studying at Republic Polytechnic, was also banned from driving for 15 years and fined $800.

Court papers said Tang and three friends — Ms Phoebe Lo, Ms Michelle Phoe and Ms Isabella Tay — had gone clubbing on March 12, 2014.

They left the Orchard Plaza club at about 3am the next morning, and piled into his car.

Tang (above), who was intoxicated and falling asleep at the wheel, lost control of the vehicle causing it to overturn on Tampines Road.

Ms Lo and Ms Phoe, who were not wearing seat belts, were thrown out of the car and died.

Tang and Ms Tay were hurt.

Tang's alcohol blood level was found to be 139 mg/100ml, above the legal limit of 80 mg/100ml.
