A debtor turned runner who helped loansharks to carry on their businesses and harassing house occupants was jailed for 14 months and fined $240,000 on Friday.

Part-time deliveryman Lim Kien Peng, 41, was also ordered to be given 12 strokes of the cane.

He admitted to 13 of 30 charges, ranging from bank transfers, cash withdrawal and checking account balances, having and distributing namecards and flyers to splashing paint on doors and padlocking the gates of the units.

Lim re-offended and committed the series of offences while on court bail in March for harassing debtors on behalf of unlicensed moneylenders.
