A mini-mart owner has been jailed two weeks for punching a site supervisor in a case of road rage.

The Straits Times said Thavaseelan Mayilvahanan, 38, pleaded guilty to punching Azhagar Thamizh Selvan, 35, on the face along the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) on Nov 19 last year.

Azhagar, an Indian national, was driving his lorry on the third lane of PIE when Thavaseelan's car swerved into his lane.

He then signalled for Thavaseelan to stop at the road shoulder.

Both motorists stopped their vehicle, after which Thavaseelan alighted and walked to Azhagar's lorry.

Azhagar told Thavaseelan that he had not signalled when changing lanes, but the latter insisted that he had.

The two men then quarreled, during which Thavaseelan opened the door of Azhagar's lorry and punched him on the face.

He then walked back to his car and drove off. Azhagar called the police.

Thavaseelan could have been jailed up to two years and fined $5,000.
