SINGAPORE: Police are investigating a 37-year-old man for lodging a false report of armed robbery which he claimed took place outside Jalan Besar Stadium.

On March 14, at about 12.30pm, the man lodged a police report, claiming that he was a victim of an armed robbery.

He stated that on March 12 at about 8pm, four unknown suspects armed with a knife robbed him of his work permit and S$300 in cash.

Police investigations followed, and the officers established that the victim had lodged a false report.

In a statement on Tuesday, police said the man is believed to have lost his work permit after a drinking session at Serangoon Road, and subsequently lodged the false report to cover up for the loss.

Investigations against the subject are ongoing.

A person found guilty of filing a false police report can be jailed up to a year and fined up to S$5,000. - CNA/nd
