Man investigated for making false police report

Posted: 19 June 2012 1736 hrs

SINGAPORE : An IT engineer is being investigated for making a false police report.

The 29-year-old man claimed that he had been robbed along the footpath near Block 229 Jurong East Street 21 on June 16.

The man claimed that the suspect assaulted him and robbed him of his laptop that was worth about S$1,500.

Police later found that the subject had made a false report to cover up the loss of the laptop which belonged to his company.

Police said investigations are on-going.

If he is found guilty of giving any information, which he knows to be false, to a public servant, the man can be jailed up to a year, or fined S$5,000, or both.

Police said they will take stern action against anyone found to be giving false information and wasting police resources which could otherwise have been put to better use.
