A man in Taiwan was found with a ceramic cup, measuring 8cm tall and 6cm wide, in his anus during an X-ray scan.

He had sought medical attention after suffering from abdominal distension for three days and being unable to defecate, resulting in unbearable pain.

Despite doctors' efforts to remove the cup externally, they were unable to do so and the man eventually underwent a two-hour operation to remove the cup via his intestines.

He later claimed that he had got the cup lodged there "by accident".

Aftermath of the "accident"

According to Sin Chew Daily, parts of the man's intestines were found to be lacking in blood flow and were necrotic when he was examined in the hospital.

He had failed to mention the cup's presence to doctors beforehand, being too embarrassed to do so.

X-rays revealed the cup facing down in the pelvic cavity.

In the operating theatre, doctors tried using instruments, including a laparoscope, to remove the cup.

But it proved futile as the cup was too slippery.

They finally removed the cup in an open surgery on the man's abdomen, while creating an artificial stoma to allow him to defecate.

The man was said to have tried to push the cup out naturally through his bowel movements but to no avail.

By the time he sought help at the hospital, he had been unable to defecate for three days.

A doctor at the hospital pointed out that while inserting foreign objects into the bottom was not unheard of, they can cause immense damage to internal organs and be fatal.

These objects include baseballs, vibrators and coconuts, and could be inserted for stimulation or out of curiosity.
