A man in Chengdu had a part of a chopstick inside his nose for nine months, reports Sichuan-based West China City Daily.

With the aid of liquor, the 57-year-old man Wen went for his mouth but missed wide, forcefully ramming the chopstick into his eye. Holding the snapped half of the chopstick, he felt around his bloody eye but could not find the other half. He was so intoxicated that there was no pain to indicate where he might have gouged himself.

An x-ray Wen took over nine months later helped him solve the mystery — a thin line 5cm long appeared near the socket of his left eye, nestled in the nasal cavity.

Wen's doctor said the chopstick was only 1mm away from gouging into his eyeball. Wen had successfully passed the sliver of wood through the sensitive layer of facial skin and straight into the less sensitive nasal cavity, explaining why he was able to keep his tableware stored away without noticing.
