A LORRY driver who gave a $100 bribe to induce a traffic cop not to issue him a traffic summons was sentenced to four weeks' jail on Tuesday.
But Toh Guan Keng alias Toh Ting Keng, 65, is appealing against the sentence and was offered $10,000 bail, pending appeal.
A district court heard that Corporal Roslan Abdul Rasip had stopped Toh for the alleged offence of careless driving along Seletar Expressway on Dec 23 last year.
The Traffic Police officer explained the offence and told him that it could be compounded for $150 with six demerit points.
Toh pleaded for leniency and asked Cpl Roslan not to issue a summons. He then took out two pieces of $50 notes and placed them on the floor.
The officer told him to pick up the money, and asked what that was for. Toh handed the money to Cpl Roslan and told him not to summon him.
