Man gets 18 years' preventive detention for theft, sexual assault

SINGAPORE: The High Court has sentenced a 46-year-old man to 18 years of preventive detention for theft and sexual assault offences.

This means the man, Lim Chee Cheong, will undergo a stricter regime during his imprisonment, as well as receive 24 strokes of the cane.

According to court papers, he had entered the house of a 44-year-old private tutor last year.

After tying up the victim and taking some valuables, he proceeded to sexually assault her and even filmed the process.

The court also heard that Lim had committed past robbery offences and suffered from alcohol dependency issues.
