SINGAPORE: A 24-year-old Malaysian Phang Gun Kui, was fined S$21,000 on Monday after pleading guilty to importing duty-unpaid liquor through the Woodlands Checkpoint.

The 53 litres of duty-unpaid liqour was found in a modified fuel tank.

The potential customs duty and GST involved amounted to S$1,730.

Phang had pulled in into the Woodlands Checkpoint for arrival clearance in a Malaysia-registered car.

ICA officers spotted some anomalies on the floorboard of the vehicle and decided to carry out a thorough inspection.

That's when they found the duty-unpaid liquor.
