Man fined for punching motorist over dispute

By Elena Chong, Courts Correspondent

A 61-YEAR-OLD man who punched another motorist in a dispute over a parking lot was fined $1,600 on Monday.

Businessman Tan Tek Sin alias Chin Tek Sin admitted to punching business executive Chee I-Ming in the mouth area at the basement of the multi-storey carpark of Mount Alvernia Hospital, Thomson Road, on June 7 last year.

Tan was ordered to pay $300 compensation to the victim.

The court heard that Mr Chee, 38, was waiting for a parking lot at the carpark when he spotted one and proceeded to drive towards the lot. But Tan beat him to it.

Mr Chee then got down, and during a dispute, Tan tried to grab the victim's hair but the victim managed to dodge away.

Tan then scratched the victim's left eye region and punched him in the mouth region before getting into the car and driving away.

Tan could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000.
