Taipei, May 4 (CNA) A man who had been searching for the body of his older brother drowned in Taipei on Monday, authorities said.
The bodies of the two brothers were later found one after the other, police said.
The younger man, who was identified only by his surname Lin, was last seen wading into the Xindian River near Chungcheng Bridge, wearing snorkeling gear, according to the police.
The 40-year-old man was looking for the body of his older brother, who reportedly had jumped from the bridge on May 2.
Ignoring his family's objections, Lin decided to conduct his own search for his brother's body, estimating that it was under the bridge, police said.
Police and firefighters were searching downstream for the body of the suicide victim when Lin entered the water and later disappeared from sight at about 7 a.m., police said.
The older brother's body was found under the bridge and an hour later, the younger Lin's body was retrieved some distance away.
The Lin brothers were said to be very close.
The reason for the older Lin's apparent suicide is being investigated.
He is survived by a wife and two daughters.
