Police said a 35-year-old man died on Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a taxi on a pavement in Tsuen Wan.

Police received a report at around 2pm that a taxi driver had allegedly lost control of his vehicle, which veered onto the pavement and hit a pedestrian by Nina Tower.

Officers said the a man was found unconscious with a leg injury. He was rushed to Princess Margaret Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The taxi driver, who reported chest and head pain, was transported to Yan Chai Hospital for treatment.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

5th August 2025 – (Hong Kong) At 1.52pm today, at the entrance of Nina Tower’s car park on 8 Yeung Uk Road, as a taxi collision occurred, leaving a foreign male tourist from the Philippines critically injured and eventually succumbing to his injuries after falling into a coma. The victim was part of a group of friends visiting Hong Kong for leisure, preparing to depart when the fatal accident occurred in the hotel lobby drop-off area. The taxi driver, sustaining minor injuries, was swiftly taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Eyewitnesses detailed the harrowing scene where the taxi careened into the building’s wall, prompting emergency responders to swiftly set up a red curtain for rescue operations. Images captured and shared by onlookers showcase the structural damage to the building’s facade, with tiles dislodged and the internal framework exposed. The taxi’s front end bore the brunt of the impact, severely deformed, with the unconscious male tourist lying motionless in front of the vehicle.

It has been reported that the taxi driver involved is Mr. Wong, who is 80 years old. He stated that he felt dizzy and lost control of the vehicle while attempting to turn towards the taxi stand before the incident occurred. Following the accident, the driver experienced chest pain and sustained injuries to his head and hands, leading to his transport to Yan Chai Hospital for treatment. He has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving resulting in death. The case has been handed over to the Special Investigation Team 1 of the New Territories South Traffic Accident Unit for further investigation.
