A man in his early 20s has been given a week’s administrative detention after he disrupted an airport security check by standing on the X-ray screening table, mainland media reports.

His elder sister was also involved in the row with staff and was fined 200 yuan (US$30 or HK$235), according to Cnhubei.com.

The siblings were flying between cities in central Hubei province, travelling from Wuhan to Xiangyang, according to the report.

They became enraged when airport security staff said they couldn’t bring a spray bottle containing a prescription liquid onto the flight.

They quarrelled with staff and the brother jumped onto the X-ray machine table, triggering a 30-minute shutdown at the security checkpoint. The report identified the siblings only their surname Yao.

According to mainland aviation regulations, spray medication can only be taken onto aircraft when passengers can show a doctor’s prescription and the amount is limited to what they need for the duration of the flight.
