Doctors in Shenyang, the provincial capital of Liaoning, said a 10-year-old boy was admitted in the early hours of Tuesday morning having had his right hand severed.

He is now said to be in a stable condition, but surgeons could not attempt to reattach his hand as it was damaged after being boiled in a kettle.

Police said the 30-year-old suspect, surnamed Wang, was the boy's mother's boyfriend.

The couple had argued about money in the lead up to Shenyang native Wang cutting off the boy's hand, Chinese Business Morning View reported.

The incident occurred at a budget hotel in Tiexi District.

A hotel worker said they had been staying there two months, claiming their house was being renovated.

The mother is said to be from Hangzhou, capital of eastern Zhejiang Province.

Wang believed she was reluctant to pay for a house in Shenyang and vented his anger on the child, Liaoshen Evening News reported.

Despite his ordeal, the boy seemed unwilling to blame Wang, according to the Chinese Business Morning View.

"He is a nice person. He treats me well," the boy said, and referred to Wang as "father."

The child said Wang was drunk when he returned to the room and accused his mother of cheating him, Liaoshen Evening News reported.

After forcing the boy to stand on the windowledge of the sixth-floor room, he struck him with a knife handle in a bid to knock him out and began severing his hand.

"I felt frightened but dared not scream, the child said.

He didn't realize that he had lost his hand until later, the newspaper reported.
