SINGAPORE: A massage parlour owner has been charged with running a brothel and living off the earnings of prostitutes, among other things.
Loo Cheng Kiat, 52, faces two counts of using "Soon Soon Foot Reflexology" located at Geylang Road as a brothel, between November 2011 and April 2012. For this, he faces a fine of up to S$3,000 and imprisonment of three years on each charge.
On a second conviction, Loo is looking at a S$10,000 fine and jail term of up to five years.
Between November and December 2011, Loo allegedly lived off the earnings of five Chinese prostitutes aged 19 to 24.
If convicted, he could be jailed up to five years and fined S$10,000 on each of the five charges.
Loo is also accused of assisting in managing an illegal gaming house on August 24, 2012, at another unit in Geylang. He also faces a ninth charge of running a massage parlour without a valid licence.
The maximum penalty for running an illegal gaming house is a three-year jail term and fine amounting to S$50,000. For running a massage parlour without a valid licence, Loo could be fined up to S$1,000.
This case will be mentioned again on May 22.
