A SUSPECT in a fatal stabbing 27 years ago re-surfaced yesterday morning in a special court session and was charged with the capital offence of murder. Lee Hong Mun, now 55, was accused of being involved in a knife fight that caused the death of a fish porridge hawker at Block 42, Telok Blangah Rise in November 1983. He was arrested last Friday but the police would not reveal if Lee had turned himself in, or if he had been tracked down and extradited here. It is not known if Lee had spent all these years abroad or if he had remained in Singapore undetected.

A day after the stabbing, a 30-year-old plumber was arrested in his flat and charged with murder. In 1985, he lost his appeal in the High Court against a seven-year jail term.
