A MAN allegedly tricked another into believing that he could get him a loan of $8,540 and induced the victim to transfer a total of $400 to his account.

Tan Eng Hwa, 35, is accused of deceiving Mr Ho Yew Leong into transferring $300 and two sums of $50 into his POSBank account as a condition to get him the loan. Tan, who was nabbed at Kitchener Road on Tuesday, is believed to have been involved in separate cases of posing as a photographer to coerce young women into giving in to his sexual demands and giving him money. He was remanded at Ang Mo Kio police division for investigation. If convicted of cheating, he can be jailed for up to 10 years and/or fined on each charge.

<!-- end by line -->
A MAN accused earlier of cheating another was charged on Thursday with posing as a professional photographer to take pictures of three women either in the nude or in lingerie. He was charged last week with three counts of cheating Mr Ho Yew Leong of a total of $400 in July last year. The fresh charges accuse him of cheating Mr Ho of another $3,900 last August by making him transfer the money to his POSB account as a condition of getting him a loan of $8,540.

The 36-year-old unemployed man is also said to have deceived a 20-year-old student into believing that he would pay her $700 for allowing him to take pictures of her in lingerie and in the nude on Dec 30 and 31 last year respectively. He is alleged to have similarly duped a 22-year-old graphic designer into posing for him in lingerie on April 15 last year, and deceived an 18-year-old student into allowing him to take pictures of her in the nude at a hotel last June. Bail of $20,000 was allowed. Police are still investigating. Tan, who will appear in court again on Feb 25, faces a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine upon conviction of each charge.

Accused of sexual grooming

<!-- by line --> <!-- end by line --> A MAN who was charged last week with cheating was back in court yesterday to face charges of pretending to be a professional photographer and inducing three young women to pose in lingerie and in the nude with the promise of payment. Tan Eng Hwa, 36, is accused of deceiving a 20-year-old student into believing that he would pay her $700 for allowing him to take professional photos of her in lingerie and in the nude on Dec 30 and 31 last year. He is said to have similarly duped a 22-year-old graphic designer into posing for him in lingerie on April 15 last year, and to have deceived an 18-year-old student into allowing him to take pictures of her in the nude at a hotel last June.

A police statement said that Tan did not pay any of the women after photographing them. He also reneged on his promise to help them get modelling assignments.
Tan, who is unemployed, was unable to raise the bail of $20,000. Investigations are ongoing. If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to 10 years and a fine for each charge. Last week, Tan was charged with cheating a Mr Ho Yew Leong of $400 last July by dishonestly making the victim transfer cash to his bank account on the pretext that he could get him a loan of $8,540. Yesterday, Tan was further charged with deceiving Mr Ho into giving him another $3,900 between Aug 12 and Aug 20 last year.
He will appear in court on Feb 25.
