A man was charged on Monday with breaking into his mother-in-law's flat to cause hurt by using a dangerous weapon.

S. I. George Raj, 42, is alleged to have broken into the unit at Yishun Ring Road by climbing in and breaking the window grill of the second-level flat at about 6am last Saturday.

A police statement said the suspect used a knife to slash both his wife and brother-in-law. He was arrested later that day near Telok Blangah.

Raj was remanded for a week at Ang Mo Kio Police Division for further investigation.
