SINGAPORE - A man was charged on Friday for an alleged murder he committed with four others 14 years ago.

Tan Keng Heng, 70, is said to have caused the death of odd-job labourer Peng Teck Hoe, 32, at a wet market in Block 127, Lorong 1 Toa Payoh, with Neo Eng Hwee, Eng Bak Siong and two other unknown men on Feb 21, 2001.

Eng, 61, pleaded guilty last year to stabbing Mr Peng in the abdomen two to three times with a knife during a fight. He was jailed seven years.

Neo had earlier been jailed for three years and eight months for similarly causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon.

Tan left the country before he was charged. A warrant was issued for his arrest in 2009.

His lawyer Sunil Sudheesan from Quahe Woo and Palmer told the court on Friday that arrangements had been made for his client to be returned to Singapore. Tan had surrendered in Malaysia a few days ago.

Tan will be remanded for a week for investigations. The case will be mentioned on May 22.
