SINGAPORE - A 34-year-old man has been arrested for stealing a motorcycle brake calliper last week.

The suspect is believed to have taken the bike part from a motorcycle parked along Macalister Road on August 30.

According to the police, the brake calliper is worth about $1,000.

The suspect was arrested at Pasir Panjang Road on Tuesday morning.

He will face the court on Thursday on charges of theft of a motorcycle component. If convicted, he faces up to 7 years in prison and may also be fined.

The police said in a statement that motorcyclists should take measures to safeguard their motorcycles by adopting the following crime prevention measures:

a. Park your motorcycle in well-lit areas;

b. Install an anti-theft alarm for your vehicle;

c. Use a motorcycle canvas to cover the motorcycle, securing both ends; and

d. Use additional locking devices such as disc brake locks or install suspension guard.
