SINGAPORE: The police have arrested a 43-year-old man believed to be responsible for a series of motorcycle thefts. Three motorcycles were reported stolen, last Friday and Saturday, from car parks in Hougang and Ang Mo Kio.
Officers from Ang Mo Kio Division conducted ambush operations to nab the suspect.
On Wednesday, at about 5.45 pm, they spotted a man approaching one of the stolen motorcycles parked along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4.
As he was about to start the engine, the officers swooped in to arrest him.
Preliminary investigations revealed he is believed to be involved in at least three cases of motorcycle theft in Ang Mo Kio and Hougang.
The suspect will be charged in court on Friday with theft of motor vehicle. If convicted, he may be fined and jailed up to seven years.
The police advised motorcycle owners to park in well-lit areas, remove the ignition key when leaving the vehicle unattended and to use additional locking devices, such as disc brake locks.
