SINGAPORE - Police arrested a 40-year-old man for suspected involvement in a case of snatch theft in the vicinity of Sengkang East Way on Dec 7 last year.
A police statement on Tuesday said that the 49-year-old victim had lodged a police report on Dec 9, informing police that she was being followed by an unknown person near midnight on Dec 7 along Sengkang East Way. The unknown person later snatched her gold chain and grocery bag.
The suspect gave up on her gold chain after she cried and struggled, and got away with her grocery bag.
Police officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division followed up on the case and uncovered a crucial lead which identified the suspect on Tuesday. He was tracked down and arrested on the same day in the vicinity of Jurong East Street 21.
The suspect will be charged in court on Wednesday for snatch theft. If convicted, he will face a jail term of up to 7 years and be liable for caning.
