Man arrested for serial housebreaking
SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 24-year-old man who is believed to be involved in at least eight cases of break-ins at a condominium located along Cavenagh Road between May and October 2013.
In some cases, the culprit had gained access to the units by forcing open the rear door and tampering with the kitchen window.
In other cases, the culprit had taken advantage of unlocked doors and metal grilled gates to gain entry into the unit.
Valuables such as cash, a handphone and jewellery were stolen.
Following reports of the break-ins, officers from Tanglin Police Division conducted extensive enquires and intensified patrols in the area.
On October 10 at about 3am, officers spotted a male suspect loitering suspiciously at the stairway of one of the affected condominium blocks.
Police officers also recalled that the suspect fit the description in one of the cases.
The officers approached and interviewed the suspect and he was placed under arrest.
Among the items seized from the suspect's possession were a screwdriver and a pair of gloves.
