Man arrested for online milk powder, diapers scam

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 31-year-old man, believed to be involved in at least 15 cases of online cheating where he duped people into paying for milk powder and diapers which were never delivered.
The man had used social media to advertise that he had stock of milk powder and diapers for sale, below retail price. Police say initially, he did deliver the items and his popularity spread by word-of-mouth, resulting in even more orders. However, he continued to accept payments, even though he began to renege on orders.
He was arrested by officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division on Friday (Aug 29). Investigations are ongoing, but if convicted of cheating, the suspect could face up to 10 years' jail and a fine.
Police are encouraging other victims who may have fallen prey to come forward and lodge a report.
