The New Paper
By Judith Tan
SINGAPORE - He was sent to the emergency department to get relief for his fever and nausea, but retiree Chong Tiong Hock got a dose of trauma instead.
The wheelchair-bound 86-year-old suffered bruises and broken skin while being treated at the National University Hospital (NUH) on Thursday last week.
His son Clifton Chong, 44, told The New Paper: "My dad had woken up (on Thursday) with high fever and was feeling nauseous. Having had a history of pneumonia, I decided that it would be best to drive him straight there."
But that evening, when the IT manager visited his father, he was shocked to find his dad "badly bruised" on both arms and legs at the ward.
He even had a part of his skin on his right wrist ripped off.
"I was horrified when I arrived at the ward at 7pm. Both my father's arms were darkened with bruises and were heavily bandaged," he said.
Mr Chong, in a telephone interview with TNP, said that while he was in the ward, a staff nurse came in to remove the bandage and check the wound on his father's right wrist.
Improper dressing
"When she removed the gauze, she realised that a big piece of the skin had been ripped off and was stuck to the gauze. The wound was red and raw," he said.
"Both she and another nurse had a hard time trying to redress the wound without causing further pain and distress to my father.........

Value your life? Do not want unprofessional treatment or misdiagnosis?
Do NOT check into NUH or CGH. Fucked up hospitals with fucked up doctors.

Choose other public hospitals, or better yet, choose a private hospital (Gleneagles, Mount E).
